Flu Season 2018

FREE Flu Vaccines for Enrolled Veterans at Eastern Kansas HCS

 

The seasonal flu vaccine is available now through March 31, 2019, at the Topeka VA Medical Center, Leavenworth VA Medical Center, and all Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Flu shots are available during scheduled visits and also on a walk-in basis during normal clinic hours in all Primary Care, Behavioral Health, and Specialty Clinics.

Walgreens Pharmacy

The VHA and Walgreens are national partners again this year, allowing enrolled Veterans to receive a free standard dose flu vaccine through March 31, 2019 at any Walgreens location.
  • Present your VA ID card and another photo ID.
  • Be sure to tell Walgreens staff that you are a Veteran. Walgreens will automatically transmit your immunization record electronically to the VA to update your health record
  • Walgreens offers the free quadrivalent (standard dose) vaccine only. Veterans age 65 or older who wish to receive an alternate vaccine will be directed to their nearest VA Medical Center or Community Based Outpatient Clinic, or may choose instead to have their Medicare or private insurance billed.  If questinos about which baccine you should receive, contact your team.

EKHCS Dosing Recommendations 

While no single formulation is preferred and recommendations vary, for the 2018-19 Flu Season, EKHCS is providing the FLUAD vaccine for persons age 65 and older.   The quadrivalent (standard dose) will be available for all other patients.   

If you receive your flu vaccine at any non-VA location

Please send a SECURE MESSAGE using My Health-E-Vet or CALL 1-800-574-8387, Ext 53348, and leave a message which includes your name, last 4 digits of SSN, date vaccine was received, and facility it was received at, so that your medical record can be updated.
