Geropsychology - Topeka

Geropsychology/Geropsychiatry services older people in a variety of settings, including outpatient, inpatient, extended care, and follow-up with veterans in community placements. Psychological services are provided to a heterogeneous group of older veterans with the concerns and abilities of all people.

These concerns include psychiatric diagnoses such as:

  • Affective disorders
  • Personality disorders
  • Chronic symptoms related to schizophrenia
  • Medical problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and cancer
  • Social crises ranging from marital difficulties to homelessness

Topeka Division houses a 20-bed Geropsychiatry Community Living Center. This is a rehabilitative program for older veterans with a primary psychiatric diagnosis who have been unable to remain in their own home, nursing home, residential care or inpatient setting due to problematic behaviors.
