Job Fair

The Eastern Kansas HCS is hosting a job fair to reach out to individuals in the following categories:

Attendees should bring a copy of their resume and transcripts.  Potential applicants should also be ready to provide proof of eligibility such as:

  • DD214
  • Letter of Service Connected Diablility Rating
  • Certificate of Schedule A Disability


Special Appointment Authorities

Veterans’ Readjustment Appointment (VRA)
To be eligible for a VRA a veteran must satisfy both A and B below

A:

  • Have served in the Armed Forces on active duty for more than 180 days, and were released from active duty less than ten years ago OR
  • Have served during a period of war including World War 2, the Korean conflict, Vietnam era, the Persian Gulf War (and many others where some Armed Forces Service Medal was awarded including Desert Storm, OIF, OEF etc.), and were released from active duty less than ten years ago OR
  • Have a service connected disability. There is no time limit for VRA eligibility for a veteran with a service connected disability of 30% or more. If the disability is lower than 30% the eligibility for VRA expires after ten years from release from active duty.


Make sure to provide a copy of the DD-214, that shows the character of discharge. If you have a service connected disability, make sure you provide a copy of the Service Connected Disability Award Letter. The award letter will verify your disability rating.

B:

  • Must meet the minimum qualification requirements for the position that they are being considered for. Military service alone is considered qualifying for positions at GS-3 and below.

30 Percent or More Disabled Veterans
An agency may give a noncompetitive appointment to a Veteran who is:

  • A: Retired from active military service with a disability rating of 30 percent or more OR
  • B: Rated by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as having a compensable service-connected disability of 30 percent or more.

Schedule A

The Schedule A hiring authority allows persons with a severe psychiatric disability, physical disability, or intellectual disability to be noncompetitively appointed.

Qualifying physical disabilities include, but are not limited to, blindness, deafness, paralysis, missing limbs, epilepsy, and dwarfism.

Applicants under Schedule A must still meet the minimum qualifications for the position.

Applicants must be able to successfully perform the major duties of the position with reasonable accommodation, or without reasonable accommodation.

The Schedule A Certification Letter is proof of eligibility for a qualifying Schedule A disability.
