VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System

Transition and Care Management Program

Have you recently returned from military service? If you have served, you have earned benefits. Now is the time to take advantage of the benefits VA offers OEF/OIF/OND Veterans.

Here are a few of the programs VA offers:

5 Years of VA Health Care — OEF/OIF/OND combat Veterans can receive medical care for any condition related to their service in the Iraq/Afghanistan theater for five years after the date of their discharge or release. In order to take advantage of these benefits, OEF/OIF/OND Vets need to enroll in VA's health care system. Don't delay!

180 day dental benefit — OEF/OIF/OND combat Veterans may be eligible for one-time dental care — but you must apply with 180 days of your separation date from active duty. More info: Combat Veterans Fact Sheet

Do You Want to Go Back to School? — VA pays benefits to eligible Veterans, reservists and active duty service members while they are in an approved education or training program. The new Post 9/11 GI Bill could be for you!

Are You Looking for a Good Job? — Take advantage of the variety of resources that can help you land one. Want to work at VA? VA's Veterans Employment Coordination Service recruits Veterans. Email or call 866-606-6206 to get in touch with a Regional Veteran Employment Coordinator in your area. If you're looking for federal employment in another agency, check out the agency contact list. Each agency has a Veteran employment program office dedicated to helping you. Look for jobs at VA Careers and VetSuccess, two of many websites that can help in your search.

Gulf War Registry— All OEF/OIF/OND Veterans are encouraged to complete the Gulf War Registry exam at their local VA hospital. This exam is a personalized and comprehensive examination which will keep an index of demographic information, exposures, reported symptoms and diagnosis of our Veterans who served on active military duty in the Gulf War which began in 1990. This registry is one way the VA tracks the special health concerns of Veterans. Topeka: 1-800-574-8387 ext 52795 Leavenworth: 1-800-952-8387 ext 52756 Gulf War Illnesses: www.va.gov/gulfwar

Veterans Service Officers—If you have incurred a disability or aggravated a medical condition during your time in military service, you could qualify for a Service Connection Pension. Veterans Service Organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) are available at both campuses to assist with the application process.
